What is the Skin Prick Test?
The skin prick test is a valuable diagnostic tool for patients with eczema, especially when the condition is suspected to be triggered or aggravated by allergens. During this test, your Laguna Allergy provider will introduce small amounts of common allergens, such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, onto the surface of the skin. If you or your child is sensitized to any of these allergens, a localized allergic reaction in the form of a small, itchy bump or hive will typically occur within 15-20 minutes.
Identifying specific allergens through the skin prick test can help our board certified allergists pinpoint potential triggers for eczema flare-ups. Using this information, they can come up with treatment plans, including allergen avoidance strategies and allergen immunotherapy.
What are Biologics?
Biologics are medications designed to target specific molecules in the immune system that play a role in the development of eczema.
